The Tale
- NaNo Year: 2009
- Fandoms: Back To The Future, Corpse Bride, "American McGee's Alice," "Girl Genius," "Narbonic," "Mystery Science Theater 3000"
- Story: Once upon a time, a kingdom fell under the cruel rule of the Queen of Hearts. Hot-tempered, petty, and obsessed with power, the Queen bartered her soul with the powers of darkness until she became a horrific monster capable of destroying anything in her path. She ruled her lands with an iron fist, unleashing demons and abominations and generally making everyone's life miserable. The desperate townspeople prayed for the greatest heroes of the age to come. . . But they were busy, so they'll have to make do with a boy who knows no fear, the godson of death, the girl known as Little Red Riding Hood, a man with an enchanted watch, and a princess who has been asleep in a tower for 100 years. No fairy tale is going to survive this group.
- Notes: Around the time NaNoWriMo 2009 was due to start, I'd been rereading the archives of a favorite comic of mine: "No Rest For the Wicked." Said comic happens to be a crossover between a number of fairy tales, with the main characters coming from "Puss In Boots," "The Princess and the Pea," and "Little Red Riding Hood." I thought this was a neat idea and wanted to experiment with it. I also noticed that the version of Red depicted happened to be a dangerous young lady, capable of murder and wielding a large axe.
This is one of my sillier stories, if you hadn't guessed by the synopsis. I tried to keep a light touch with a lot of what happened. Nevertheless, there's some pretty dark moments in here, especially regarding the tales featuring Victor and Alice. Read carefully, but don't forget to laugh.
