Summoning & Banishing Spells
● Come To Your Master:
○ Color: Bright pinkish-magenta
○ Glyph: A vertical line stick flying toward (aka with three horizontal motion lines behind it) a stick figure with an outstretched left arm
○ Requires: Anything paper that has to do with mail – an envelope, an old letter, or even a stamp. The caster crumples the paper in his or her fist while visualizing the object in his/her mind in as much detail as possible – and if necessary, where the object should appear.
○ Effect: Allows the caster to summon any inanimate object they own to himself or herself. The summoned object appears in the caster’s hand unless he or she specifies it appear somewhere else. Anything with the potential to harm the caster (such as a bladed weapon) will appear in such a way that it can be used safely. The object must be something the person owns (whether bought by the caster or a gift to them), and it cannot be larger than the caster (you cannot summon your house to squish someone). For most casters, the object must also be in the same country (with some minor flexibility built in should the caster or the object be very near a border). Very high level casters can summon from farther away, though this takes more concentration and has been known to make people pass out. Nothing animate can be summoned, and it generally doesn’t work with animal or people corpses unless they’ve been specially prepared. The spell is instantaneous, and after summoning, the object stays with the caster until such time as they manually return it (in other words, you summon it, you’re lugging it around – unless, of course, you also know Retreat From My Sight).
○ Visuals: The crumpled paper dissolves into ash, and the spot where the object will appear glows bright magenta shortly before the object itself is summoned.
○ Enchantments Or Potions: None. Though it should be said that this spell is great for summoning pre-loaded wands.
● Retreat From My Sight:
○ Color: Deep forest green
○ Glyph: A vertical line stick flying AWAY (three horizontal motion lines in front of it) from a stick figure with an outstretched RIGHT arm
○ Requires: A piece of paper refuse – like a wrapper or used blotting paper. (Naturally, it can’t be a letter or envelope as that’ll automatically trigger Come To Your Master instead.) The paper is smashed underfoot while the caster concentrates on the object to be removed. If unable to see the object, the caster should picture it in their head in as much detail as possible.
○ Effect: Allows the caster to banish any inanimate object in a mile radius around them. The object banished appears either outside the radius in the safest position possible to avoid hurting anyone, or, if it is an personal possession summoned with Come To Your Master, back in the original place it was summoned from. Nothing animate can be dismissed this way (you can’t make a person vanish by this method). Any banished objects cannot be brought back by anyone, not even the original caster, for ten minutes.
○ Visuals: The object vanishes in a flash of green light, and reappears outside the radius in a similar flash.
○ Enchantments Or Potions:
- To charge into a wand, the caster inscribes the glyph, wraps the discarded paper around the glyph, then very lightly steps on it. The caster then points the wand at the object to be removed. Opinions are divided as to whether ease of use is worth risking breaking your wand.
● Imagination Into Reality:
○ Color: Bright orange
○ Glyph: A thought bubble shape with a circle dropping out of it (three vertical parallel lines between bubble and circle)
○ Requires: A “token” from the caster’s body (e.g., a few strands of hair, a drop or two of blood, some fingernail clippings – or, if desperate, you can just cast the spell and let it take a tiny chunk of flesh). The caster holds it in his or her hand and concentrates on the object they wish to summon.
○ Effect: Allows the caster to summon a single object from their imagination into the real world temporarily. The object can be anything from a piece of clothing to a luxury carriage. The object must be inanimate, but it can have moving parts (so the fact that the carriage has wheels and such wouldn’t be a problem, but you’d need to find a horse for it). The object lasts until the caster dismisses it or three hours, whichever comes first. It also fades away if it breaks. The spell can only be cast twice per day, and the caster must wait at least one hour between castings.
○ Visuals: The token from the caster’s body vanishes, and the summoned object appears in a small flash of orange light.
○ Enchantments Or Potions: None.
● Beasts of Dream:
○ Color: Maroon
○ Glyph: A thought bubble shape with a four-legged stick figure leaping out of it (circle head and front two legs out of the bubble, back two legs in bubble)
○ Requires: Three strands of the caster’s hair and a drop of their blood. The caster holds that in his or her hand and concentrates on the creature or person they wish to summon.
○ Effect: Allows the caster to summon a single animal or person from their imagination into the real word temporarily. Summoned animals and people function largely autonomously, but can be directed by their summoner’s will (will follow verbal and written instructions, can be controlled mentally if the caster is high level). They appear and act exactly as the caster pictures them – this means that if the caster creates a mental version of a friend, they can essentially summon a duplicate of that friend – though depending on how the caster is feeling, they may not act precisely like that friend. This also means that if the caster pictures a beast that doesn’t take direction well, they may struggle to keep the summoned creature under control. Summoned creatures and people capable of speech can get into conversations and learn information for the caster – this information is automatically granted to the caster upon dismissal if the creature or person doesn’t “report back,” so to speak. The creature or person remains until dismissed or after three hours, whichever comes first. They also fade away if they’re mortally injured. Can only be cast once per day.
○ Visuals: The hair and blood vanish into the either, and the summoned creature or person appears in a big flash of maroon light.
