25 Days of Multiverse 2013, Day One
A random prompt I forgot about -- despite Day Six being up on the Secundus section. Back in 2013 I did a self-imposed Christmas drabble challenge -- 25 days, 25 drabbles, each set in a different universe I'd written. And, to kick things off, I naturally started with the Forgotten Vows Verse, during the Christmas season that separates "Remembering You" from "Fixing You." The kids at Houndsditch naturally haven't had much in the way of Christmases in the past, and I wanted to assure them and the readers that things were going to be different from now on. (And as if Victor wouldn't be in the mood to make the holiday the best ever for everyone, given what he'd just conquered by the time of this fanfic. . .)
“So – um – is Father Christmas coming this year?”
Victor looked up from his sketchbook in surprise. “Pardon, Charlie?”
Charlie scuffed his foot against the floorboards. “I talked to Abigail and Reggie – they were here for last Christmas, and they said that–” He stopped and looked down, refusing to meet Victor’s eyes. “Dr. Bumby told them Father Christmas was much too busy to bother with us.”
Well. As if he didn’t have enough reasons to hate the man. Victor knelt down in front of Charlie, putting a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Don’t worry. Father Christmas is coming this year – I promise.”
